Crossing The Wire by Will HobbsNavigational Image Return to YA Nominees Previous Nominee Next Nominee

Crossing The Wire
by Will Hobbs is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! This book is about illegal immigration from Mexico.

As the story begins, Victor Flores, 15, is tilling the land so he could plant corn when Mr. Rivera tells him about the falling crop prices. Victor worries about the survival of his family.

Rico Rivera is Victor’s best friend. Rico is able to leave Mexico to go to America with 1500 dollars in coyote money from his brother. Having no coyote money, Victor is forced to cross the wire by himself. He meets Miguel, 27, who is also trying to cross the wire. The border police catch the bus Victor is on.

You will have to read the book to find out what happens next! This is a well-written, action-packed page-turner.

Crossing the Wire is a very exciting story about a 15-year-old Mexican boy named Victor Flores.

After his father dies and corn prices fall, he must find a way to provide for his family, so he decides to "cross the wire" and find work in the United States.  To do this, he must hike miles in the desert, climb mountains, and jump trains while trying to slip past the American border patrols

Along the way he makes new friends and gets bitten by a rattlesnake.  All these adventures make Crossing the Wire one of the best books I have ever read.  I didn't want to put it down.
